Please Note:
Hostas will be sold on a "First-come, first-served basis".
Some of the rare hostas are in short supply. To avoid disappointment, please place your initial order early and you can always make additions later.
If you live close enough to make a personal visit, please reserve your "must-have" hostas
 early anyway by e-mail, phone or fax.
We will hold it for you then until you come for your pick-up. 
 
Also,
I would like to mention that many of the "2007 New Hostas" introductions are
brand-new on the market and they will arrive here in late April/beginning of May.
We will need to assess their size and maturity to determine whether they
will need to spend some extra time growing time at the nursery
or whether they are large enough to suit our standards.
In any case, we will consult with you before shipping your selections to you!


 


 

 

In response to your requests, we have added the following features to this year's Availability List.

  1. There is a grid for seeing at a glance what the approximate size of a mature hosta will be. Final size at maturity can only be given as an approximation. If an undivided hosta grows to maturity in a garden with wonderful, rich soil, lots of fertilizer and water and no competing tree roots, then the size will likely be larger. Sometimes, in less ideal conditions, the size will be smaller.
  2. Also, there is a concise description. I have tried to highlight some of the most important features of the hosta and also include information about colour and fragrance of flowers. Whenever possible, I added information about the parentage of a hosta. If you are familiar with the characteristics of one or both of the parents of a hybrid, then that gives you a much better idea about what to expect from the new hosta. Similarly, many of the new hostas are "sports" ( this means a genetic variation from the original) and if you know what the parent hosta is like, then you can appreciate the difference between the two. Sometimes the new hosta is the complete reverse, sometimes it has added variegation or more substance - it's more fun when you get to know a bit about the hosta's background and family connections!
  3. If you click on one of the titles way up on top of the page, you will see the hostas sorted in lists - all fragrant ones, tiny ones, huge ones, etc.

A note to our American visitors:

Our nursery has completed the lengthy process for becoming officially certified under the Canadian Greenhouse/Nursery Certification Program. This means that American visitors will now be able to purchase hostas at our nursery and we will be able to provide them immediately with the appropriate documents for taking their hosta purchases home with them across the border.  Unfortunately, at this time, we cannot accept mail-order requests from USA customers. On-site American visitors are welcome to shop at the nursery in person and may take their purchases home with them immediately.

To comply with all Canadian regulations as well as American import/export restrictions our nursery operation will undergo a number of official inspections and audits per season to certify the health of our hostas and that our nursery has complied with all requirements. This guarantees that hostas grown here have passed all phytosanitary requirements. One other major requirement is that any imported hostas must complete a "Canadian residency". Since the majority of new hosta varieties are developed in the United States and we import from there, even those that are originally from there, must still complete the full Canadian residency requirement before being allowed back into the United States. Therefore, all hostas with the letter "A" in the column to the right of the Price column have been cleared for sale to U.S. customers. However, the hostas which do not have an "A', will become available later in the season after they have completed the required "residency" requirement.
